Penn Stater Magazine

I have recently worked on a full and half page illustration for the November/December issue of Penn Stater Magazine. These pieces are for an article titled "Getting the Boys Back." Elementary school can be a frustrating and unfriendly place for boys and a video game-incorporated curriculum may possibly be an option to get boys excited about learning. It was such a fun project to work on and many thanks to Carole for letting me take part of this assignment! Thanks for reading!

The summer is finally over here in Tokyo and it's starting to get cold at night. It feels really wonderful to go outside and get some fresh air! Here is a spot illustration for the October issue of Law Technology News. The article is about the law firm Seyfarth Shaw steps in to help stranded children navigate the U.S. immigration maze. Many thanks to Shane and I hope you all had a wonderful summer! More to come soon!

Aldo's Fantastical Movie Palace

Here is a book cover illustration (cover design by Kris Nelson) for Jonathan Friesen's new book, "Aldo's Fantastical Movie Palace", published by ZonderKidz. I was also asked to work on a spot for the front flap as well.

About the book:
In the Darkness of this Theater, Anything Can Happen The family's broken-down theater has always been a safe place for Chloe. There, no one can see the scars that line her face---scars her inventor father accidentally caused, leaving even deeper wounds between them. In the darkness she meets Nick, a boy with his own hurts. While Nick isn't the most pleasant companion, a rocky friendship is formed over their love of films. Soon the two are working on a movie script about a fantastical world---one that suddenly comes alive on the screen. Chloe and Nick are transported into an adventure beyond what they ever imagined, filled with dragons, magical pools, and a sinister vapor that threatens to destroy everyone. But when tragedy strikes, Chloe must find the courage to step out of the shadows and find what she's always longed for.

I have recently received a copy and it looks really great with the foil stamping on the title (beautiful work Kris!!). Please check here for more information about the book! Thank you for reading!

CommonWealth Magazine

Here is a full page illustration for the Summer issue of CommonWealth Magazine. The article is about Cerberus's health care play: The owner of Steward Health Care, the private equity firm named for the mythological three-headed dog, is taking on Boston’s big teaching hospitals. It's complex, yet very interesting to know about inner workings of competing hospital systems. I hope things will change for good. Thank you for reading!

Capture the Flag

I hope everyone is having a great time this summer! Here is a book cover illustration (Jacket design by Whitney Lyle) for Kate Messner's novel, "Capture the Flag", published by Scholastic. It's an action-packed mystery series about a group of kids who are descendents of the Silver Jaguar Society (a secret society dedicated to protecting the world's treasures). Please check more information about the book here.

I had such a great experience developing these characters and many thanks to Whitney for letting me take part of this wonderful book series!! I have actually worked on two pieces for this project and I'd like to share the other piece that didn't make it to the cover as well (since I was very happy with this version too!). The book is available in store now, so please check it out when you get a chance! Thank you for reading and more to come soon!

Boy's Life Magazine

I have recently done a spread and spot illustration for the June issue of Boy's Life Magazine. The article was about making the team: The coach of the kayakers club wants nothing more than to be accepted by his fellow kayakers. When they suddenly face a life-or-death situation, can he truly make the team? I really enjoyed working on these pieces and many thanks to Scott for the fun project! Thank you for reading!

Jose Cuervo Tradicional

Here are some images for Jose Cuervo Tradicional, commissioned by Dieste. The concept of this piece is about celebrating Cinco de Mayo and the client was looking for an image that pays homage to tequila, the beverage that reigns victorious every year on May 5th. The ad features an equestrian conquistadora, triumphantly raising her flag alongside tequila's hero, the agave plant. I think these ads have been released to the public, but it's so unfortunate that I wouldn't get to see them in person since I currently live in Japan... (please share photos if you find them in your area!) Many thanks to Kaitlyn, Ricardo, and Gabriel for such a fun and exciting project to work on! :) Thank you for reading!

Wharton Magazine

Here is a full page illustration done for the spring issue of Wharton Magazine. The article was about how to build a successful, sustainable privately held enterprise, and why it will hold advantages over its publicly held counterparts. The schedule was pretty tight on this assignment but it was such an accomplished feeling when I was able to finish the piece on time! It was great pleasure working with you Emily! Thank you for reading!

Aon's One Magazine

I have recently done a spread and spot illustration for the latest issue of Aon's One Magazine. The article was about managing employees from different generations. The AD had an idea of using men's shoes as a metaphor to illustrate the generation gap: Polished Oxford (representing the baby boomer generation) and Converse (representing the millennial generation) facing each other across the spread. Knowing that there will text in between them, I kept the background blank for the simplicity and decided to add extra details to the elements. Lots of fun working with Adele on this project! Thank you for reading!

UNH Magazine

This piece was done for the winter 2012 issue of University of New Hampshire Magazine. The article was about ocean mapping: unlocking the mysteries of the deep. A research group at UNH uses multi-beam sonar beams to see the contours of the ocean floor, sunken ships, underwater mountains and etc. It was such an interesting article to work with and I was very happy to be able to take this assignment (many thanks to Valerie!). And fortunately, the final image was selected to be used for the cover as well! Thank you for reading and more to come soon!

Angels on Earth Magazine

This spread illustration was done for the March/April issue of Angels on Earth. I was asked to illustrate a scene of a female angel cradling a scene with a house and a person gardening, and looking down at them. I didn't get to read the entire article for this assignment but it was a great experience to work on an image based on client's idea. I really enjoyed working on this piece and many thanks to Doug for such an exciting project! Thanks for reading and more to come soon!

This cover illustration was done for the 2012 winter issue of Response Magazine. The theme for the issue was about the astronomical scientific discoveries about the universe. I was fortunately asked to work on a full page illustration as well. It was such a wonderful experience to work on space themed pieces and I had so much fun working on them. Many thanks again to Rich! Thank you for reading and more to come soon!

Up Here Business & The Globe and Mail

I hope everyone had wonderful holidays and 2012 is off to a great start! Here are some pieces that I didn't get a chance to post last year. First one was for the 2011 July issue of Up Here Business Magazine. The article covers five business that have gone out of business, crash and burned. However, they have all come back with new business that are successful.

This piece was done for The Globe and Mail. The article was about the earthquake and tsunami in japan. Many people are still suffering from the aftermath of the disaster, and I sincerely hope that they will recover from this tragedy and difficult times soon. Thank you for reading and best wishes for 2012!
