This cover illustration was done for the 2012 winter issue of Response Magazine. The theme for the issue was about the astronomical scientific discoveries about the universe. I hope everyone had wonderful holidays and 2012 is off to a great start! Here are some pieces that I didn't get a chance to post last year. First one was for the 2011 July issue of Up Here Business Magazine. The article covers five business that have gone out of business, crash and burned. However, they have all come back with new business that are successful.

This piece was done for The Globe and Mail. The article was about the earthquake and tsunami in japan. Many people are still suffering from the aftermath of the disaster, and I sincerely hope that they will recover from this tragedy and difficult times soon. The Phantom Limb

This book cover illustration (cover design by Melissa Arnst) was done for William Sleator and Ann Monticone's novel, "The Phantom Limb", Published by Abrams Books.

About the book:
Isaac is the new kid in town. His mother, Vera, is in the hospital with a mysterious illness, and the only person left to care for Isaac is his distant grandfather. Friendless and often alone, Isaac loses himself in his collection of optical illusions, including a strange mirror box that he finds in his new house, left behind by the previous tenants. Designed for amputees, it creates the illusion of a second limb. Lonely Isaac wishes someone would reach out to him, and then someone does—a phantom limb within the mirror box! It signs to Isaac about a growing danger: someone who has murdered before and is out to get Vera next. The only way Isaac can solve the mystery and save his mother is with the help of the mirror box. But can he trust the phantom limb?

Here is the book cover art I illustrated for 'Forever' by Maggie Stiefvater, published by Scholastic (Please check her website for more information about the book). This book is the last sequel to the wolves of mercy falls trilogy. The concept for the image was same as the last book, using only flat shapes and 3 colors. About the book:

Power Transmission Lines

Here is a piece I have illustrated for Uphere magazine a while ago. I'm actually not sure if the image was appeared on the magazine. The article was about Power Transmission Lines in the northwest territories in Canada: to fix the power grid and run power around the east side of the great slave lake, people would need to construct massive towers, 30 stories high. The place is popular for fishing, camping, and kayaking.

Here is a piece I have recently worked on for the latest issue of Golf World magazine. The article was about a cloud of uncertainty surrounding Japan golf tours: With the country still reeling in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake, the Several women’s tournaments have already been canceled and the beginning of the men’s season after the Masters is also in doubt.

I would like to say thank you so much for supporting the relief efforts in Japan! And I sincerely hope all the people in Japan will recover from the disaster soon.

The article was about change champions at Beta Theta Pi: One hundred seventy years of tradition is a big weight to carry during a governance change effort. Rather than bow to the pressure, the leaders of Beta Theta Pi recruited volunteer champions to lead the charge for change. The article was about society’s changing relationship with nature: how modern people are falling back in love with the natural world and being re-enchanted with nature. Silver Award from ADCC Student Competition!

I have mentioned about ADCC student competition finalists couple months ago and there was an awards ceremony yesterday. It was their 60th annual award and I felt fortunate to be able to participate in this memorable ceremony. This award consists of numerous categories such as Advertising, Graphic design, Interactive, and Editorial design. I was very honored to receive Silver Award from ADCC Student Competition for "Restoring what is lost". Thank you so much for this incredible honor!

I received the award certificates and annual book after the ceremony.

This beautiful book cover was illustrated by Ben Weeks! He came to Sheridan College for the portfolio review when I was in 4th year and he is such a nice / talented artist. It was such an incredible night... Now back to reality and time to do more work!

I just received a new issue of EZ magazine from Japan. This magazine features a number of great artists and I felt very fortunate to contribute my work to this issue. Many thanks to Ikeda for featuring my work!

I have one more great news! I just received a message that this piece "All is mine" was selected as best work in show for ASIAGRAPH 2009 (Division I: CG Art)!! The show will be held at 2 places in Tokyo: National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation and Tokyo International Exchange Center. The show opens from October 22 - 25. imagineNATIVE is an international film festival in Toronto and celebrates the latest works by indigenous people on the forefront of innovation in film, video, radio, and new media. I was fortunate enough to have been asked to work on a poster illustration for them. I have been working with Beehive Design and it's been such an amazing experience working with them.

As part of the project, I was also asked to revise "Restoring what is lost" for postcards. Here is the image of how they look.

The festival opens from October 14 to 18. The poster will be a completely different image and I will post it when the project is completed. Thank you for stopping by!

This piece is about the bear hunting issue. I was reading the article and it really broke my heart to think that humans can be that cruel to helpless animals. I hope this image would help stop bear hunting at least a bit...
